The “Toot Hill Hilly” is a 20.2 mile long time trial that covers 2 laps of a 10.1 mile circuit. As the name suggests it contains a few hills, including the short and steep Theydon Mount. Its position early in the season makes the “Toot Hill Hilly” the perfect cobweb clearer, or for those training hard through the winter, the perfect opportunity to test the form and claim some early season bragging rights!
The start is located on School Road outside Toot Hill Golf Club, unfortunately this is half way up the climb into Toot Hill Village. Upon reaching the Village, turn left at the green and on to Epping Lane, a truly rolling road which finally drags up on to the open and windy Banks Lane. A “nice” flat section preedes a sharp right hand bend where the road then descends through the trees and down to Mount Road. The left turn from Banks Lane to Mount Road is a tricky affair, be prepared to slow down and put in an effort on the flat to get back up to speed. The steepest section of the time trial now comes, Theydon Mount, once over the top its a quick descent down to the left turn on to Epping lane. From Epping Lane turn left on to London Road, the fastest section of the course if the wind is in the riders favour. Get into your best “aero” position and open up the taps to the corner of church Road, turn left and repeat the circuit!
This years event will take place on Sunday 12th March 2017.
